Hi L’Oreal, great article. I totally agree with you. As a Black Brit, I shake my head in despair that Britain is so racist that it forced Meghan and Harry to leave.
As a Black Brit, I know so many others feel the same as you and me, and we worry about our futures in a country that refuses to recognise its own institutional racism.
Maybe because our voices are ignored by mainstream media and our own platforms are not as wide-reaching yet, but I do feel it’s important to not lump Black Brits and other people of colour under your observation. I hate to think that the world thinks Black Brits are ok with the treatment of Meghan Markle, because we’re not! Nor do we live in adulation of the Royal Family. Due to slavery and colonialism, Black Brits have a complex relationship with the Royals, but this isn’t as widely discussed because Britain is more concerned with maintaining its image of ‘tolerance’, even when others see through it.
